On Saturday, January 7 the Clark Middle School Speech Team competed in the “Winter of Winners” tournament at Harrison County Middle School in Cynthiana, Kentucky. This marks the halfway point of their season.

Competing against fourteen teams from around the state, CMS placed seventh in overall sweepstakes points. Frances King placed third out of forty competitors in Declamation while placing fifth of sixty in Poetry. James Fernandez placed fourth out of sixty competitors in Prose. Chastity Rowland finished seventh out of sixty competitors in Poetry. King and Fernandez are now prequalified for competition at the KHSSL State Tournament hosted in March.

Also competing on Saturday and contributing to team sweepstakes points were Cheyenne Ashworth, Koda Brown, Cousby Justice, Erica Koffer, Jacob Sorrell, and Audre Yates.

The team’s next tournament will see them heading… to Danville, Kentuckylater this month. There they will compete in a tournament hosted at Danville High School. The team is coached by Sarah Hodson, Amy Yates, and Ben Hodson. Taylor Amburgey, a GRC student and former competitor, serves as the assistant student coach.
